Saidur Rahman Payel. The murder trial of North South University student, Saidur Rahman Payel is being moved to a Speedy Trial Tribunal as per the decision of the monitoring committee in this case.

“The charge sheet for the investigation was produced on Oct 4,” said Mostafizur Rahman, Assistant Police Superintendent of Munshiganj district police.

“The committee has decided to set up a speedy trial tribunal. The case will be sent to the home ministry for further steps,” he added.

Payel, a fifth semester student was travelling to Dhaka by a Hanif Transport bus which was stuck in a jam in Narayanganj at 2am on Saturday.

He got off the bus to relieve himself, but did not return. Two days later, his dead body was recovered by police from Bhober Char canal at Gazaria Upazila in Munshiganj.

Investigations revealed before Payel could board the bus, it set off as the traffic eased. He ran behind the bus, and it stopped, but he injured himself badly and fell unconscious as the bus’s automatic door opened on him.

The supervisor and the driver along with the helper decided not to take him back to the bus. Instead, they carried the youth’s body and threw him into the canal.
