Tarana Halim, State Minister for Post and Telecommunication, said that the country will be able to facilitate 4G (Fourth Generation of mobile telecommunications technology) from December next. He told this at a press conference held at the conference room of the ministry in the Secretariat on Wednesday.
She said, ‘The technical work will be completed by November. Then the auction will be held for the 4G bandwidth. Hopefully, the people will be able to get 4G by December. Meanwhile, the Prime Minister has approved the proposal for 4G’.
Responding to a question from the journalists, she said, ‘The operators did not buy adequate bandwidth for 3G services, so there was not a good experience for the 3G users. Also, there were some errors in that service. But there is no scope for error in forthcoming 4G service because the government will strictly monitor the quality of that service.’
‘The network operators are in a competition, so they will be cautious to reach on top in mobile services. They will be able to provide quality services. So there is no scope for neglecting to buy enough bandwidth to launch the 4G’, she added.
The State Minister said, "We are not interested in increasing the price of internet."
She further said, "We are not giving special privileges to ‘Teletalk’ in 4G launching. For this, we have kept the bandwidth auction process open. But efforts are on to increase the quality of Teletalk services.
Two projects have been approved twice for the development and expansion of the 4G technology.
