Facebook will open an office in Dhaka, said Mr. Ritesh Mehta, chief of Facebook's South Asia Policy Program. In an exclusive interview with Bangla Tribune, he said so at ICT Tower in Agargaon, Dhaka on Monday. He said, ‘Facebook has several plans regarding Bangladesh. Some of which have started to take effect.’ He cannot tell the exact date for the office to be opened but he informed that Facebook wants to be a part in the formation of digital Bangladesh.
Ritesh Mehta came to Dhaka to inaugurate a training program titled 'Boost Your Business' in Bangladesh. This program will train about 10 thousand Bangladeshi youths and entrepreneurs. Facebook aims to equip SME’s of Bangladesh through ‘Boost Your Business’ Program and with the right skills the new entrepreneurs will reach out to new customers and expand their business.
Responding to a question, Ritesh Mehta said, ‘We have no intention to make the profit from Bangladesh from these programs. We're doing this to increase social engagement as a part of social responsibility. We are operating these programs with different communities of Bangladesh.’
It is to be noted that State Minister of ICT division Junaid Ahmed Palak said, ‘the number of Facebook users in the country is 2 crore 70 lacs.’
Asked if there is a plan to stop the Fake ID, the national ID card or Photo ID will be used while opening Facebook ID, he said, it is a complicated question. It will not be easy to do this.’
‘Copyright is an important matter. It cannot be launched until a valid and standard solution is available worldwide. However, if you open an office in the country or launch the admin panel, it is possible to do many things in accordance with the local laws. He said two more programs have been started to increase the social engagement of Facebook’, he added.
