BNP high command has been given six suggestions by the party grassroots. They are: strengthen campaign to secure release of party chairman, Khaleda Zia, preparation for 11th national parliamentary election, leave Jamaat, ensuring national unity, demand caretaker system during election and work to increase organizational strength of the party.
The grass roots gave these suggestions during a closed door meeting with party high command on Saturday.
BNP’s Chittagong wing organizational secretary, Mahbubur Rahman Shamim, said: “we told the senior leaders that Khaleda Zia must be freed and the party should take part in the national polls with her as head.”
Sylhet division, organizational secretary, Sakhawat Hossain Jibon, also underlined the need to bring out Khaleda Zia from prison.
Cox’s Bazaar and Sylhet district BNP leaders advised BNP high command to discard Jamaat from 20 party alliance.
In Sylhet and Cox’s Bazaar, Jamaat gave candidates despite BNP candidates and, therefore, there’s no need to keep them in the alliance, they said.
BNP’s Sylhet district joint organizational secretary, Kalimuddin Ahmed, said: “we asked Jamaat to withdraw their candidates but they did not listen.”
At the meet, presided over by BNP secretary general, Dr. Khondokar Mosharraf Hossain, Dr Moin Khan, barrister Moudud Ahmed, Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury and others were present.
