The government hasn’t been able to ensure scope for an impartial election, says BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
“The Election Commission hasn’t been able to give any proof of impartiality as well. I don’t think they are capable,” he said during the campaign of the party’s Dhaka South mayor aspirant Ishraque Hossain on Thursday (Jan 23).
Claiming that the government has created an environment of fear during the polls, he said, “Our Dhaka North councillor aspirants and activists have been injured and tortured. Our councillor candidate has been picked up.”
He said that the Election Commission has brought EVMs to the polls due to their own “incapability” and to help the ruling party. “If needed, postpone the polls and conduct it with ballots.”
The senior BNP leader solicited on behalf of Ishraque, saying that the son of late mayor Sadeque Hossain Khoka is the only one who can lead Dhaka forward.
