The BNP has demanded that the Election Commission not use electronic voting machines (EVMs) in the upcoming Dhaka City polls alleging that it would cause 'blatant vote rigging'.
They pressed their demand during a meeting with the EC on Tuesday (Jan 21) in Dhaka’s Agargaon.
BNP alleged that e-voting has led to massive rigging in the recently held Chattogram-8 by-polls.
“There is no scope for challenging if the votes are stolen this way,” BNP National Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury said.
He added that BNP activists were being threatened and people were losing faith on the Commission.
The party alleged that at least 15 leaders and activists including their Dhaka North mayor aspirant Tabith Awal were injured during an attack on Tuesday.
Demanding re-election Chattogram-8, Khasru said that the elections in the country were getting worse by the day.
“The ruling party occupied all 170 polling station,” he said before adding that the by-election was prove that EVM facilitates vote stealing.
