The plastic used for posters turn into menace during monsoons when it blocks drains, sewerage lines, creating overflow of putrid water, leading to disease and contamination. PHOTO/Sazzad HossainTwo city corporation mayor and councillor hopefuls are giving pledges to develop a clean and eco friendly city. They are saying that if elected they will make Dhaka livable. But ironically, their campaigns are using plastic, which has potential to cause severe environmental degradation.
As per environmental law, production, marketing and usage of polythene is illegal but so far, the magistrates have not taken any action against the usage of plastic in the pre polls hustings.
