Okaaaaa prty The Awami League does not need to involve ministers and MPs against senior BNP leaders rather the party's mayoral candidates are enough for the campaign, says General Secretary Obaidul Quader.

His remarks came after BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir called him to quit the Cabinet and join the campaigns for Dhaka city polls.

Speaking to the media on Sunday (Jan 12) after a meeting of party secretaries, Quader said, "Have I done anything that violates the code of conduct? Why did Mirza Fakhrul had to make that remark?"

Describing his BNP counterpart's comments as a challenge, he said "We will not need ministers or MPs. Our mayor candidates, who have a clean image, are enough against the campaigns of senior BNP leaders."

Party chief and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has instructed MPs and minister to not campaign violating the code conduct, according to him.

Quader said he agreed with the chief election commissioner (CEC) on the issue of Tofail Ahmed and Amir Hossain Amu campaigning.

CEC KM Nurul Huda said on Saturday that the lawmakers and senior Awami League leaders are not eligible for serving as campaign coordinators.

"We don't disagree with the election commission... They will not take part in campaign or do anything which violates the electoral code of conduct."
