Awami League will give the nomination to the people with clean records in the upcoming Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) elections, said the party’s General Secretary Obaidul Quader.
Quader made the remark at a media briefing at party president’s political office in Dhanmondi on Friday (Dec 27).
“The candidates must have certain qualities to get the party’s nominations. Popularity, acceptance and clean reputation will be considered for the mayoral and councillor posts of DNCC and DSCC. And our party chief will also give the nomination to the people with clean image,” said Quader.
He said, “The names of the prospective AL candidates for two city mayor and 172 councillor will be known after a meeting of the party's Local Government Nomination Board scheduled to be held at prime minister's official residence Gano Bhaban at 6:00 pm on Saturday (Dec 28). The party will not give nomination to those who are controversial in politics.”
Meanwhile, talking about the new committee of the ruling Awami League, Quader said it has 15 new faces.
So far nine and seven people collected nomination forms for mayoral posts of DNCC and DSCC respectively.
Elections to DNCC and DSCC are scheduled for Jan 30.
