Jatiya Party founder HM Ershad’s widow Raushon Ershad is set to be the new chief patron of the party, a post that will be created during the 9th council.

The announcement will be made during JP’s council on Saturday (Dec 28), Secretary General Mashiur Rahman Ranga.

Raushon Ershad is currently serving as the party’s senior co-chairman.

Responding to queries on how the responsibilities of the co-chairman and chief patron will be balanced, Ranga said, “In all party matters, Raushon Ershad’s position will be above the chairman.”

However, the chairman will have the final call on all party decisions, he added.

Ranga said that the there are likely to be many changes in the party charter. “The leaders suggested many changes during the presidium’s meeting.”

He added that the number of presidium members will be reduced and during the council at least four new co-chairmen will be appointed.
