The ruling Awami League has named new leaders for its Dhaka Metropolitan North and South units.
General Secretary Obaidul Quader announced the names of the presidents and general secretaries to at the triennial council of the units at the capital's Suhrwardy Udyan.
Sheikh Bazlur Rahman and SA Manna Kochi have been named as the president and general secretary of the Dhaka metro North unit while Abu Ahmed Mannafi and Humayun Kabir will lead the South unit.
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister and Awami League President Shiekh Hasina opened the council as the chief guest by hoisting the national flag as well as releasing pigeons and balloons at the historic Suhrawardy Udyan.
Dhaka North City AL President AKM Rahmatullah and General Secretary Sadeq Khan and Dhaka South City AL President Alhaj Abul Hasnat and General Secretary Shahe Alam Murad were present on the occasion, among others.
The last council of undivided Dhaka Metropolitan Awami League was held in December 2012, but the committee was announced in April 2016 after splitting into two units in 2015.
