BNP prepared for talks: Mirza FakhrulWith the next parliamentary election due late year, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said his party is prepared to sit with its arch-rival Awami League (AL).
“We have spoken about holding talks for many times. Today, we are urging them (AL) again. Come and let’s talk (about the election). Where do you (AL) want to sit? What will you plan (on polls-time administration)? Tell us. We are prepared always,” Mirza Fakhrul said on Friday (Jul 27).
The senior BNP leaders, however, ruled out any possibility of making the first move by calling AL over the phone. “If they call us we will reply back,” he said.
Mirza Fakhrul was addressing a press conference at the Party‘s Nayapaltan office.
Asked whether BNP can win in Sylhet city polls without its ally Jamaa-e-Islami, Fakrul said, “BNP depends on no one to win the polls.”
Blaming the Election Commission for lacking authority to hold free and fair polls, Mirza Fakhrul urged the commission to create a congenial atmosphere for election.
