With the 11th parliamentary election due late this year, ruling Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has ruled out the possibility of holding formal dialogue with BNP.
“Only three months are left to announce the election schedule. So, there is no need to hold any dialogue (with any political party centring the next general election),” Quader said on Friday (Jul 27).
The road transport minister was speaking to the media after visiting the progress works of Metro Rail in the city’s Agargaon area.
Quader said, “We might have a conversation with political party leaders over mobile phones to maintain working relations.”
“If good relations exist among politicians many problems can be solved then,” he added.
On expansion of the AL-led 14-party alliance, Quader said, “Our alliance might get bigger. Many political parties want to join us whereas many other parties want to form separate alliances. Everything will be clear by October.”
On Barapukuria coal scam, the minister said, “The government has taken the issue seriously and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has ordered to take stern actions against those who were involved in the scam.”
He said the works of the Metro Rail are progressing fast.
