Amid allegations of extortions, the ruling party’s Central Working Committee took the decision on Saturday (Sep 15) in a meeting chaired by Hasina.
Several leaders who attended the meeting told Bangla Tribune on condition of anonymity that the issues of the party’s student affiliate, Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), was not on the agenda.
According to them, none of the members of the Central Working Committee raised the matter during the meeting.

The party chief raised the matter of Chhatra League herself as no one responded, according to sources.
“There are countless allegations against Shovon and Rabbani. They had demanded a portion of the annual budget of the Jahangirnagar University from the VC. When the VC refused they had raised allegations against her. They have turned into monsters. They don’t need be in the leadership of Chhatra League [BCL],” she was quoted saying by sources.
She then ordered their ouster and said that BCL First Vice-President Al-Nahean Khan Joy and Joint General Secretary Lekhak Bhattacharjee will act as president and general secretary until new leaders are elected.
