Speculations and discussions are going on among the ruling Awami League policymakers about the possible verdict of the BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and its consequences. Top leaders of AL are analyzing what will be the destination of BNP if Khaleda Zia is sentenced in Zia Orphanage Trust Corruption case. Leaders of the ruling party are alert that Khaleda Zia may be sentenced in the verdict. They are also thinking about the possible ways of dealing if BNP starts movement after the verdict.
As Awami League is in power, they will try their best to get benefits from this verdict. But, the ruling party leaders are trying to sort out the equations if the verdict goes against Khaleda Zia how people will react or what will be the losses and benefits.
Recently at least 6 leaders from the policy making level of Awami League ensured the Bangla Tribune, ‘Within maximum 6 months, the verdict of Khaleda Zia’s case will be pronounced. Through this, the direction of future politics of the country will be fixed.’
An important leader of the Awami League Secretarial body told the Bangla Tribune on condition of not disclosing the name, ‘The speculation about the future of Khaleda Zia has started inside the party. Thoughts are going on about what will happen to Khaleda in the verdict or if she is sentenced, how BNP will take this. Negative or positive whatever it is, future politics depends on this. Will BNP step out of the election showing punishment of Khaleda Zia as the cause? If she is punished how public will react on this? Will BNP get sympathy from people? - serious analysis is going on about these facts inside Awami League.’
One another member of the secretarial body of Awami League said on condition of not disclosing the name, ‘If the court gives punishment to Khaleda Zia, will it continue in the appeal division? Or the matter will hang up? If this happens will Khaleda Zia be able to participate in the election? And if the punishment does not persist in the Appeal Division and if she participates in the election taking bail, what will be the equation of election? Discussions are going on these matters.’
Dr. Hasan Mahmud, Publicity and Publication Secretary and Spokesperson of Bangladesh Awami League told the Bangla Tribune, ‘We are expecting that BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia will get punishment in the Zia Orphanage Trust Corruption case. But we will remain alert about the consequences of the verdict.’
On the other hand, while contacted Awami League Presidium Member Kazi Zafarullah, Dr. Abdur Razzak and Joint Secretary Mahbub-Ul-Alam Hanif didn’t agree to comment.
Policy maker’s body of AL thinks that punishment of Khaleda Zia in the Zia Orphanage Trust Corruption case is a matter of time now. Through proof of evidence, the situation is such now that there is no alternative to the punishment of Khaleda Zia.
3 Presidium members and 4 Secretaries informed the Bangla Tribune that speculations are going on about the politics after the verdict of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia. Awami League has also been keeping an eye on the fact that after the verdict of the case, the public opinion must not go with BNP in any way.
Two leaders of the policy making level said, ‘The future of BNP politics depends on the verdict of Khaleda Zia. If Khaleda Zia is punished, will BNP participate in the election without her or boycott the election? We are looking for the answers to these questions.’
