Ruling Awami League President Sheikh Hasina will announce the new committee of its student’s wing Bangladesh Chattra League (BCL) after Eid-ul-Fitr, people familiar with the matter said.
Held on May 11 to 12, the last council of BCL ended without the announcement of the new committee. This year, Hasina decided to nominate leaders rather than voting.
Sources said as the prime minister does not want to slow down the Eid celebration she put the announcement on hold.
Hasina wants to invite all the aspirants to Ganabhaban and will hand over the organizational charge to the new committee with her instructions.
But, she is now busy with different state functions including regular iftar parties. So, she has decided to announce the committee after Eid. In the meantime, she is inquiring the details on the possible new faces.

Prime Minister did not even announce the committee on May 12 when the BCL activists along with the nation were celebration the successful launch of Bangabandhu Satellite-1.
She did not want to hamper the celebration as most the aspirant will be left without post.
According to sources, the Prime Minster has already selected the name of the central president and general secretary and Dhaka University unit’s president and general secretary.
Speaking to media at the party office recently, AL General Secretary obaidul Quader said, “We will announce the new BCL committee soon but we can’t say any specific date right now.”
“Prime Minister herself is inquiring the details of the post aspirants.
“A better committee will be formed though it’s getting late, it will garner praise from all,” Quader said.
When asked, AL Presidium Member Abdur Razzak told Bangla Tribune, “No announcement of the committee before Eid-ul-Fitr.”
“Prime Minster Sheikh Hasina considers making the announcement after Eid as a major portion of the leaders may feel sad if they get no post”, he said.
Immediate past general secretary SM Zakir could not give any update on the new committee.
“I can’t say anything about the announcement of new committee.” Zakir said.
Citing verification on new BCL leaders done, AL Presidium Member Faruk Khan said, “Announcement of the new committee can be made any time.”
