Former Jamaat-e-Islami leader Barrister Abdur Razzaq speaks at a programme in London on Friday (Apr 12).Former Jamaat-e-Islami leader Barrister Abdur Razzaq has reiterated his plan to not involve in politics in future.
“I have no interest to involve in politics in future as well as to form any new party,” Razzaq told a programme in London on Friday (Apr 12).
On Feb 15, Razzaq, who was an assistant secretary general, quit the party advising it to ask forgiveness for its dubious role during the 1971 war of independence. He also advocated for the dissolution of the party and to form a new one.
After leaving the party, Razzaq, in an interview with Bangla Tribune said he ‘isn’t joining any new organisation and will be involved in his law profession.”
Jamaat, whose several top brasses have been either hanged for or convicted of crimes against humanity during the 1971 Liberation War, said it was ‘saddened’ and ‘hurt’ at his resignation and hopped to maintain a ‘friendly relation’ with Razzaq.
Replying to a query at the Friday programme, Razzaq said that he still maintains a ‘good relation’ with Jamaat.
But, he claimed to have “no knowledge on their (Jamaat) future plan.”
Razzaq, who was chief counsel of Jammat at International Crimes Tribunal, also took on Bangladesh’s judiciary saying ‘nowadays the judiciary doesn’t work as it did in the past.”
At the programme, he took question from the audience and shared experience from his law profession that span over 40 years.
Supporters of Jammat were seen attending the programme. However, no top leader of party attended the event.
