HM Ershad-led Jatiya Party has nominated Jahangir Ahmed as its mayoral candidate for the first-ever Mymensingh City Corporation election.
Secretary General Moshiur Rahman Ranga finalized the nomination on Saturday (Apr 6), Deputy Press Secretary to JP chief Khandakar Delwar Jalali told Bangla Tribune.
A member of party’s central committee, Jahangir Ahmed is the president of Jatiya Party’s Mymensingh city unit.
On Mar 25, the Election Commission announced the schedule for first-ever election to Mymensingh city fixing the voting day for May 5.
According to the schedule, candidates will have until Apr 8 to submit their forms, the nominees will be scrutinized on Apr 10 and candidates will have until Apr 17 to withdraw.
On Oct 15 last year, the government upgraded Mymensingh municipality to the country’s 12th city corporation.
