Mokabbir Khan.Mokabbir Khan, who took oath as MP defying the Gano Forum’s decision, had to face party chief Dr Kamal Hossain’s wrath when he went to his office.

Two days after being sworn in as a lawmaker, Mokabbir on Thursday went to Dr Kamal’s Motijheel offices only to leave after being reprimanded by the party chief, a spokesperson for the Gano Forum said.

“Around 3.30pm, Mokabbir Khan came and told sir [Dr Kamal] he had something to say, when sir become furious and said, “Who gave you the permission to go to the parliament. You are going around saying you took my clearance. Why would I do that? I do not want to see this traitor’s face any more’,” Gano Forum’s media coordinator Latifur Bari Hamim told Bangla Tribune.

“Sir told him to get out before calling the security. ‘Take him away. The doors to my home and offices are closed for him forever!’ he said,” added Hamim.

Speaking to Bangla Tribune, Mokabbir said, “These are all untrue. I want peace. Mostofa Mohsin Montu (general secretary) knows all of it, ask him. I have met with sir [Dr Kamal] several times.”

Hamim, however, said soon after ousting Mokabbir from his offices, Dr Kamal phoned Montu and told him to expel Mokabbir on disciplinary grounds.

“The party has already sent out a statement to the media according to that,” he said.

The statement by General Secretary Montu, however, did not say that Mokabbir has been expelled but said that the party’s leadership was not aware about his taking oath.

“The party is shocked by Mokabbir Khan’s activities and wants to make it clear that the statements he made to the media are untrue and baseless,” it said before adding that the party will take a decision over him soon.

Dr Kamal-led Jatiya Oikya Front alliance of the Gano Forum, the BNP, and some other parties decided not to send their eight MPs-elect to parliament alleging widespread rigging and other irregularities in the Dec 30 polls.

Mokabbir and Sultan Muhammed Mansur Ahmed, who were elected as Oikya Front candidates from the Gano Forum, however, sought to take oath.

Sultan took oath as scheduled on Mar 7 but Mokabbir backtracked on his decision saying he would get clearance of the party first.

Hours after Sultan was sworn in the Gano Forum expelled him from the party.

Mokabbir, a member of the Gano Forum’s presidium, wrote to Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury requesting her to arrange the swearing-in and finally took oath on Tuesday (Apr 2).
