BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi speaking at a discussion meeting at the party headquarters in Naya Paltan on Wednesday (Mar 3).The BNP fears that party chief Khaleda Zia is being “slow-poisoned” at the hospital in the name of treatment, says the party’s Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.
His remarks came on Wednesday (Mar 3) during a discussion meeting at the party headquarters in Naya Paltan.
Saying that Khaleda went to prison in good health, he added, “She is very ill at the moment and dependent on a wheelchair.”
He said that they fear the government was slow-poisoning the former premier. “How did she fall so ill?”

Rizvi said that Khaleda will “never get advanced medical care,” despite the many struggles and demand.
“Khaleda Zia will never get what Sheikh Hasina will because she [Hasina] considers the country her private property.”
Criticizing the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) doctors, Rizvi said, “The government doctors said that she was severely ill when she was in prison. But now, after being brought to the hospital, they are saying that her illness isn’t that critical.
“The director said that her condition wasn’t critical without any tests or diagnosis.”
The three-time prime minister is currently undergoing treatment at BSMMU for various health complications although she and her party members have continuously expressed dissatisfaction at the treatment there.
They demanded that she be allowed to receive medical care at a specialised hospital of her choice.
Khaleda has been serving time since February 8 last year when a special court sentenced her to five years in prison in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.
Her sentence was later extended to 10 years by the High Court. She was also convicted in the Zia Charitable Trust graft case and handed a seven-year term.
