The BNP is free to chose whether it will take part or not, but the national election will be held in line with the Constitution, says Obaidul Quader. There will be no shortage of political parties if the BNP decides to sit out from the national election, says senior Awami League leader Obaidul Quader.
“An inclusive election will be held if BNP takes part as it’s a major political party. But the election will not stall, if they don’t come,” he said on Sunday while addressing a party event over Sheikh Hasina’s homecoming day.
Claiming the BNP did not respond to Awami League’s calls in 2014 over the national election, Quader said, “If Khaleda Zia responded, then a new history of working understanding would have been created.”
Awami League General Secretary Quader said that the BNP doesn’t want an impartial Election Commission or judiciary rather it wants a ‘nationalist’ one.
The BNP is free to chose whether it will take part in the polls or not, but the national election will be held in time in line with the Constitution, he said.
A cabinet member, Quader said an effective understanding is not possible between Awami League and BNP. “There is no room for an understanding with those who claim Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman did not want independence.”
