Gano Forum chief Kamal Hossain says he will brief the party’s two MPs-elect — Sultan Md Monsur and Mokabbir Khan — on the “situation” over the decision behind not joining the 11th National Parliament.
“I will brief them on the situation, which they should have understood themselves. They are not supposed to do anything overlooking the previous decision,” he told Bangla Tribune late on Tuesday (Jan 29).
The Gano Forum is scheduled for meeting on Wednesday (Jan 30) over preparations of the party’s council at its headquarters at Dhaka’s Arambagh, when Kamal will discuss the matter with Monsur and Mokabbir, according to party insiders.
On Monday, Monsur and Mokabbir expressed interest in taking their oath to office while speaking to Bangla Tribune. However, hours later, Gano Forum General Secretary Mostofa Mohsin Montu said in a statement that their previous decision stands.
Speaking to Bangla Tribune on Tuesday, Kamal said that Monsur and Mokabbir are likely to meet him on Wednesday morning, when he will discuss the issue.
“This is not supposed to be the case. Our general secretary has already cleared our position in a statement. They (Monsur and Mokabbir) are likely to meet me in the morning and the party has a meeting later in the day. Let’s see,” said the veteran lawyer, who returned from Singapore earlier in the day.Monsur and Mokabbir confirmed Bangla Tribune of Wednesday’s meeting with Kamal Hossain.
Speaking to Bangla Tribune on Tuesday, Monsur said he was still “positive” on taking oath as an MP.
“I am no big shot in Gano Forum. I affiliated myself with them since you need a party to contest the election. I am likely to meet Kamal Hossain tomorrow. I am still positive about taking oath,” he said.
Mokabbir, however, said it was the party’s call.
“I am member of the party’s Presidium (highest policymaking body). I will clear my position, but will follow whatever the party wants,” he told Bangla Tribune.
