BNP Vice Chairman Abdullah Al Noman was detained while leaving the party-nominated candidate for the now-halted Gazipur city polls.Police have detained senior BNP leader Abdullah Al Noman from Gazipur.
He was taken away by the Tongi police on Sunday afternoon as he left the house of BNP-nominated candidate for the now-halted polls to the city corporation, the BNP leader’s aide Hiru told Bangla Tribune.
Noman has been taken to the Tongi police station, he said.
The BNP vice chairman had gone to the home of Hasan Sarker, the party’s candidate, as part of the election campaign, according to Shairul Kabir Khan, an official of BNP chief’s media wing.
Noman was detained after he emerged from a news conference at Sarker’s home, he added.
His arrest comes within hours of High Court staying the polls, slated for May 15, for three months following a petition challenging redistricting of the city corporation premises.
