Former Awami League state minister Professor Abu Sayeed has joined Dr Kamal Hossain-led Gano Forum.

Sayeed went to Gano Forum party offices around 12pm on Monday (Nov 26) and officially took the party’s membership, said Gano Forum’s Training Affairs Rafiqul Islam Pathik.

He said, “Professor Abu Sayeed met Gano Forum General Secretary Mostofa Mohsin Montu and joined the party."

Prof Sayeed, a member of the constitution drafting committee, served as a state minister for information under the 1996 Awami League government.

He was also a member of the then Pakistan National Assembly in 1970 and in 1975, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman appointed Sayeed as the governor of Pabna during the formation of BAKSAL.

Bangladesh Krishak Sramik Awami League, or BAKSAL, was the only legal political party in the country for a brief period in 1975 before the Father of the Nation was assassinated.
