Awami League’s star-studded nominees’ list

Back in July this year, the ruling Awami League unveiled its plan to deploy an ensemble of celebrities for the 11th Parliamentary Election.
As it began to distribute confirmation letters to candidate competing in the election for the party, several A-list candidates, including national cricketer Mashrafe Bin Mortoza, movie star of the yesteryears Akbar Hossain Pathan Faruq received the green light.
Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor will run for Nilphamari-2 constituency for the fourth consecutive time. Noor has been the constituency’s lawmaker since 2001.
National cricketer Mashrafe Bin Mortaza will contest the polls from Narail-2 seat, which the Tigers captain said a ‘big challenge’ and he ‘did not back off to take it’.
Former national footballer Abdus Salam Murshedy will run for the Khulna-4 constituency and believes “people will for ‘boat’ symbol to continue the country’s development.”
Bangladesh Cricket Board director and former cricket AM Naimur Rahman Durjoy will contest for Manikganj-1 constituency.
Film actor Akbar Hossain Pathan Farooque secured the nomination for Dhaka-17 although he collected form to contest in his local constituency at Gazipur-5.
Signer Momtaz Begum will contest for Manikganj-2 seat for the second term. She first became lawmaker from the reserved seat for women in 2008.
Besides, State Minister and TV celebrity Tarana Halim, film actor Shakil Khan, film villain Monwar Hossain Dipjal, actor Rokeya Prachy, and Shomi Kaiser collected AL nomination form, but they are yet to receive the party’s green signal to vie for the polls.
