The ruling Awami League, which has started the process to distribute confirmation letters to candidates, has several big names this time as nominees.
Joint General Secretaries Jahangir Kabir Nanak and Abdur Rahman and Organising Secretaries BM Muzzammel Haque and AFM Bahauddin Nasim have not secured the party’s ticket.
Nanak has been replaced by Dhaka metro North unit General Secretary Sadek Khan for Dhaka-13 while Rahman by retired bureaucrat Manjur Hossain Bulbul in Faridpur-1.
The Awami League has nominated Office Secretary Abdus Sobhan Golap for Madaripur-3, the seat where Bahauddin Nasim contested in 2014.
Organising Secretary Muzzammel Haque has been replaced Central Working Committee member Md Iqbal Hossain Opu in Shariatpur-1.
Deputy Minister for Sports and Youth Arif Khan Joy, a former national footballer, did not make the list as Ashraf Ali Khan Khashru will run on the party’s ticket from Netrokona-2.
Former deputy speaker Shawkot Ali’s Shariyatpur-2 seat has been given to Organising Secretary AKM Enamul Hoque Shameem.
Shameem served as president of the party’s student wing Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) from 1994 to 1998. He was also a BCL leader of Jahangirnagar University (JU) unit.
Advocate Md Rahmat Ali, the lawmaker from Gazipur-3, will be not competing from the constituency as the party has picked up Iqbal Hossain Sabuz.
