BNP, Jukto Front from negotiation panelWith the talks slated for next week, BNP and Jukto Front formed a panel to negotiate over their demands for a free, fair and inclusive national election.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain and Moudud Ahmed will present the party in the panel.
Nagorik Oikya Convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal-JSD chief ASM Abdur Rab and Bikalpadhara Secretary General major (retd) Abdul Mannan will present the Jukto Front in the panel.
Dr Zahed Ur Rahman, member of Jukto Front’s Programme Formulation Committee, confirmed Bangla Tribune.
AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury-led Jukto Front, Dr Kamal Hossain-led Jatiya Oikya Prokriya and the BNP are set to hold talks next week over what leaders said to lock in joint programmes to press their demand for a free, fair and inclusive national election.
In August, Bikalpa Dhara chief Chowdhury’s Jukto Front forged a ‘greater national unity’ with the Jatiya Oikya Prokriya, a lose political platform led by Gano Forum chief and senior lawyer Hossain.
The BNP is in talks with joining them, but Bikalpa Dhara has made it clear that the party has to ditch its long-time trusted ally Jamaat-e-Islami if it wants an alliance.
Khandaker Mosharraf, however, said he was not aware of it. “I haven’t heard about the talks yet. The secretary general may learn about it.”
Bangla Tribune could not reach Mirza Fakhrul.
Speaking on the issues of the talks Nagorik Oikya chief Manna said, “Our goal is to take forward the endeavour of formation of the coalition. Issues including balance of power will get priority during the talks.”
Manna, however, couldn’t clarify any specific date to hold the talks.
“We are hopeful that talks will be held soon,” Manna said.
