BNP`s Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi. File PhotoThe government has resorted to a medieval time witch-hunt against BNP leaders, says the party’s senior Joint Secretary General, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.
“Our party chief has been wrongfully imprisoned and there is still a lot of ambiguity regarding the upcoming elections,” he told the media on Friday (Oct 5) at the party headquarters in Naya Paltan.
He added that the people are waiting to stage a massive movement at the face of these uncertainties.
Claiming that 27 BNP leaders all over the country have been arrested on Thursday (Oct 4), the senior BNP leader said “Scores of BNP activists are being hunted by the government every day.”
Rizvi implied that the Aug 21 grenade attack was a conspiracy to gain sympathy for Awami League and destroy BNP’s public image.
“The legal procedures in the case have been distorted to implicate Tareque Rahman in the attack.”
He claimed that opening the case so close to the election indicates obvious political agendas.
“We all know what kind of justice will be served in a country where a chief justice is forced to step down at gun point,” said Rizvi.
The former student leader said that comments made by the prime minister and other ministers indicate that the verdict of the case will be dictated by the government, adding, “The people will not stand for another unopposed election.”
