Obaidul QuaderRuling Awami League (AL) has said it will show zero tolerance to the activists who will rebel against the party candidates in the 11th parliamentary election, due late this year.
“Any party member who rebels against the nominations in the upcoming general elections will face expulsion,” AL General Secretary Obaidul Quader.
“Those party members who do not receive nominations should not harbour any ill feelings towards the nominee,” he said during an AL rally at the capital’s Gabtoli bus terminal on Friday (Oct 5).
“We have to stand united and support the party nominees,” Quader added
He has urged the party members to abstain from bad-mouthing each other saying, “We will not need outside enemies if we turn against each other,”
The incumbent road transport minister further asked the nominated candidates to refrain from blocking the roads and causing damage to properties during their campaign saying that it will be counterproductive.
“Do not carry out campaigns during Friday prayers or cause discomfort to the general people,” he added.
The three-time minister came down hard on BNP saying that they were making a political agenda out of Khaleda Zia’s illness.
“They are seeking power in the wrong way,” he told the rally, adding, “If they come into power there will be a bloodbath like 2001.”
He also criticized BNP of trying to regain power through the quota reform movement and road safety movement led by the students saying “Whining to foreigners did not aid them in any way.”
