No govt hand in ACC probing BNP leaders: Obaidul Quader (Photo: Focus Bangla)The government does not interfere in matter with the Anti- Corruption Commission (ACC), Awami League leader Obaidul Quader said responding to remarks by BNP leaders.

The ACC has launched an investigation against eight senior BNP leaders, including members of its policymaking National Standing Committee, into allegations of suspicious bank transactions of over Tk 1 billion.

The BNP has dubbed the probe as a politically-motivated attempt at the behest of the government.

“The ACC has probed ministers and ruling MPs. That would not have been the case if the government interfered,” Awami League General Secretary Quader said on Wednesday.

Speaking to the media after a party meeting, he claimed that the BNP ‘often finds the government’s hand behind things’.

“The ACC is an independent organisation. It has summoned one of our MPS. A former minister and Awami League presidium member have appeared before it. The government did not interfere,” he said.

The BNP leaders have been summoned for their bank transaction of Tk 1.25 billion, Quader said before adding, “Khaleda Zia has been convicted in a case by the ACC and they blame the administration. Why would the government interfere?”
