Describing a medical board for jailed BNP chief Khaleda Zia without her personal doctor as ‘eyewash’, senior BNP leader Moudud Ahmad said the government will be liable if her condition deteriorates.
“Authorities claim her physical condition does not allow her to appear in court,” he said adding it was a ‘plot’ to worsen her health. “The government will be liable if her condition gets worse. The people of Bangladesh will not forgive them.”
Speaking at a discussion on Friday, the BNP leader said that the party chief’s doctor, who had been treating her for over a decade’ should be allowed to examine her.
“She should be provided medical facilities in line with the jail code,” said Moudud, a member of the party’s policymaking National Standing Committee.
The BNP will continue its legal battle as well as its protests for the party chief’s release, he said before adding: “Legal battles have its limitations, but that’s not the case for a people’s movement.”
According to Moudud, a movement gradually reaches its peak.
“It’s then when the government will have to release Khaleda Zia and a national election under a non-partisan administration will be held,” he said.
