AL plans to finish polls preparations by October

Party flag of Awami LeagueWith the next general election slated for late in December, the ruling Awami League wants to wrap up its preparations for it within October.
“The Awami League will be very busy in September and October as we want to finish 80 percent preparations of the election by then. The reason is, party chief Sheikh Hasina’s organisational activities will be limited as she will serve as the head of the polls-time administration,” Presidium member Kazi Zafar Ullah told Bangla Tribune.
Senior leader and former minister Faruq Khan echoed.
“We will remain very busy from September to until the election. All preparations will be completed in the next two months,” said the AL presidium member.
Several sources at the party said that the Awami League will organise several public rallies in this month and the next one, which will be addressed by Prime Minister and party President Sheikh Hasina.
A meeting of the party Election Operation Committee has been scheduled this month, when senior leaders will be assigned specific tasks for the polls.
The Awami League also plans to convene a meeting of district unit leaders in Dhaka within next month.
Sources said that grass-root leaders will get an idea who will get the party’s ticket for polls in an effort to avoid any untoward incidents after the final list is published.
According to sources, Hasina has already finalised in candidates for 200 constituencies based on survey conducted by several agencies. She is set to go through the reports once again by October.
Several senior leaders, on condition of anonymity, said that the party has started ground works focusing on 200 seats, of which it wants to make sure wins in 170, paving the way for a hassle-free formation of government.
