A court in Dhaka has granted police seven days to interrogate Drik Gallery founder and photographer Shahidul Alam on charges of spreading rumours to incite violence.
Alam, who was picked up from his home in Dhaka late on Sunday, is being prosecuted by the Detective Branch under the ICT Act.
Detective Branch Inspector Arman Ali produced him before the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate’s court on Monday.
Alam had been picked up from his home in Dhanmondi around 10:30pm on Sunday.
Later in the afternoon, the DB started a case with the Ramna police under the ICT Act for spreading rumours on the social media to incite violence.

In a statement, Drik said that Alam, its managing director, was screaming when he was dragged out of his home into a car.
The men, who had taken him away, covered the CCTV cameras as well as took the hard-drive containing footages before locking up the guards of the building, the statement claimed
His wife Rehnuma Ahmed was in another flat in the same building, ran down the stairs after hearing screams, but the car carrying Alam had driven off before she could arrive.
