Police have brought charges of spreading rumours in the social media to incite violence against Drik Gallery founder and photographer Shahidul Alam.
The Detective Branch started a case under the ICT Act with the Ramna police on Monday, said Dhaka Metro Police Deputy Commissioner Masudur Rahman told Bangla Tribune.
He will be produced in court on Monday when the investigators will seek his custody for interrogation, said Ramna police’s Sub Inspector Nishat.
Alam had been picked up from his home in Dhanmondi around 10:30pm on Sunday.
In a statement, Drik said that Alam, its managing director, was screaming when he was dragged out of his home into a car.
The men, who had taken him away, covered the CCTV cameras as well as took the hard-drive containing footages before locking up the guards of the building, the statement claimed
His wife Rehnuma Ahmed was in another flat in the same building, ran down the stairs after hearing screams, but the car carrying Alam had drove off before she could arrive.
