Actress Quazi Nawshaba Ahmed, arrested for spreading rumours about attacks on student via Facebook, was not even in Zigatola, the spot where alleged attacks were claimed to have taken place on students. Sitting in her shooting spot in Uttara, she claimed that four persons were killed in the capital’s Zigatola and one had an eye gouged out, said RAB’s head of media wing, Commander Mufti Mahmud Khan.
“She presented the news live on Facebook with such theatrics as if to suggest that she was present at the trouble spot in Zigatola.”
In the live post, she claimed that Chhatra League had attacked students and appealed to all to go to their aid.
“The teenagers are insecure; please take them to a secure please,” she implored.
This post became viral very fast and RAB began investigation, arresting Nawshaba from her home in Uttara at night.
Nawshaba admitted to spreading the rumour, added Mufti Mahmud. She also admitted that a student by the name of Rudro gave her the information whom she had met on Friday during a student protest at Shahbagh.
Nawshaba became close to Rudro on Friday while distributing water and food, informed the RAB commander and added: “Rudro gave her the fabricated information.”
Several quarters are adding fuel to fire by adding old photos to new ones and we are investigating this, he confirmed.
Regarding the phone conversation of BNP leader, Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, he said: a case has been lodged against him and we shall take action as per law.”
