Quazi Nawshaba Ahmed PHOTO/SAZZAD HOSSAINActress Quazi Nawshaba Ahmed has been remanded in a case started by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on charges of spreading rumours to incite violence.

She was produced before a court in Dhaka on Sunday, when police was granted four days to quiz her in custody.

Earlier in the day, RAB filed the case under the ICT Act with the Uttara West police.

On Saturday, Nawshaba went live on Facebook urging people to “save the students from attacks” claiming that two students were killed.

In her one-and-half-minute live broadcast, the actress also claimed a student’s eyes have been gouged out by the attackers.

After detaining her from the capital’s Uttara later in the day, RAB said her comments played a role in the street battle that followed between students and Awami League activists in the city’s Jigatala.

Before she was held by RAB, Nawshaba told Bangla Tribune that she was not a witness to the events she had claimed, but was informed by someone.

RAB investigators said the actress told during initial interrogation that one Rudra had informed her of the incidents.
