A Biman Bangladesh aircraft, Boeing 777-300 named, Akash Pradip brought back 312 Bangladeshis from coronavirus hit Chinese city of Wuhan on Saturday (Feb 1).
After the Bangladeshi students were brought back, 12 hours were needed to decontaminate the plane. But the authority is in a quandary over what to do with the waste. Till Sunday (Feb 2) afternoon, the waste could be seen lying on an open space to the north of Biman’s hangar.
Biman’s engineering department says that after coming back, the flight was cleaned by workers wearing aprons, masks and gloves.
Eight BRTC buses took the passengers to the Hajj Camp where they will be quarantined for fourteen days.
After the passengers disembarked, principal engineer (cabin operations) of Biman, Badrul Islam began work to decontaminate the craft. At first, decontaminating spray was applied all over the craft and the plane was kept under fumigation for six hours. Later, soap water was used to wash all parts of the plane. The toilets were washed several times with decontaminating agents.
Later, the garbage within the plane plus the masks used by cockpit crew and flight cabin officers were collected though they have not been destroyed as yet.
An official of Biman, said: “The decontamination procedure followed the direction by International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) and the manual of Boeing.”
Director of Shahjalal International Airport, Touhidul Ahsan, said: “Instructions have been given to destroy the waste after coordination with health department officials of the airport.”
