As many as 302 Bangladeshis, who have been quarantined at the Hajj Camp in Dhaka after flown from China's Wuhan, have shown no symptom of coronavirus.
Death tolls in the fast-spreading virus have already surpassed 300 in China with more than 14,000 infected since it was first reported in Wuhan city by the end of 2019.
In a statement on Sunday (Feb 2), the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control Research (IEDCR) said necessary measures would be taken by special teams of Bangladesh and the government's health department if any of those shows any sign of coronavirus in the future.
An IEDCR team has been kept standby and a 19-member committee, headed by health ministry's Additional Secretary Habibur Rahman, has been formed for the management of the quarantine unit, reads the statement.
On Saturday (Feb 1), a total of 312 Bangladeshi citizens were flown back from China’s Wuhan, the epicentre of the new coronavirus outbreak.
Seven of them were admitted to Kurmitola General Hospital and the eighth, a female, to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) after being susceptible to coronavirus.
According to hospital sources, their health condition is now stable.
"They suffer no fever or respiratory troubles now and apparently, they all are in a stable condition," Director of Kurmitola General Hospital Jamil Ahmed told Bangla Tribune on Sunday.
They would be released after the hospital receives the IEDCR report, which may be available on Monday, said Ahmed.
The woman, who is now at CMH, too, is in a stable condition, IEDCR official Mushtak Ahmed told Bangla Tribune.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh has suspended the visa-on-arrival for Chinese nationals as part of the government’s temporary policy following the outbreak of coronavirus
Global coronavirus cases rose to nearly 14,380, surpassing that of the 2003 Sars epidemic, according to Chinese and World Health Organization data.
So far 23 countries including Indian confirmed coronavirus cases.
According to the statement, as many as 5,631 people, who returned from China, underwent screening test between Jan 21 and Feb 2.
No case of coronavirus is reported in Bangladesh yet, it added.
