As many as 14 complaints have been filed with Dhaka North Returning Officer Abul Kashem during the ongoing city polls.
“There are 1,318 polling centers in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC). So far, 14 complaints have been reported, which is less than one percent of the total centers,” he told media after visiting the polling center at Uttara’s IE School and College on Saturday (Feb 1).
According to him, the complaints came from different polling centers including Badda, Shatarkul, Mohammadpur, Lalmatia.
Claiming that his office had handled all the complaints successfully, Kashem said that, after the complaints were reported he “threatened the troublemakers of closing polling center and take action.”
Responding to a query on the allegation of throwing out some polling agents, he denied acknowledgement of such incident, saying, “I found no polling centers without agents during the inspection. I personally talked with them if they are facing any problem.”
Kashem claimed that Dhaka North polls were peaceful, however, admitted that voter turnout was rather low.
He said that the presence of voters would rise as the day passes before arguing, the low turnout was due to the residents', especially the "youth's habit of waking up late.”
