Voting in the Dhaka South City Corporation election was going rather well except for some untoward incidents.
“I have got a positive response from everywhere I went to inspect since morning,” he told Bangla Tribune after the visiting the center at Central Women’s College in Dhaka on Saturday (Feb 1).
Responding to a query on low voter turnout, he said, “Presences of voters were satisfactory at many centers. However, some polling centers may face low turnout.” He expected that the presence would rise as the day passes.
Baten, however, dismissed BNP's allegation of its polling agents being driven out of the centre.
Claiming no complaint was filed over such incident, the returning officer said, “We are looking into different centers since morning. Either BNP’s polling agents haven’t reported to the presiding officer or were absent.”
On EVMs failing to read fingerprints of senior citizens’, he said, “I too, have also found a senior citizen facing the problem.”
He said, so far, two written complaints were filed with him along with several others over the phone.
“The complaints have been handled immediately,” he added.
