A tech savvy crime boss finally in police custody

Arrested members of the ringMoshiur Rahman Pappu, 34, comes from an educated family. His father was a banker and of his three brothers, one is a BCS health official, one a barrister and the youngest recently graduated from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET). Moshiur also completed his university, studying Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) and worked in a renowned company. However, leaving the illustrious career behind, he is now engaged in abductions, extortion and hijacking.
His team has 10-12 persons and applying technology they carry out criminal activities.
He was arrested for abducting two teenagers.
Moshiur Rahman PappuIt was revealed that his group of 10-12 members resided in three apartments in Mohammadpur and Chad Housing.
He owns a car and three bikes which were used for abduction and hijacking. The group abducted the son of Fakhrul Islam, general secretary of Kurigram Lawyers’ Association, and demanded Tk 5 million.
While trying to rescue the boy, the police came to know of Moshiur’s crime world.

The group used to chat up potential victims over Messenger, offering support for IT related issues.
Police officials of Dhaka Metropolitan (West) say: “We used technology to locate them but they were constantly on the move, changing their locations.”
Victim Dibos and DruboDuring interrogation, Pappu said that to carry out abductions he used to change the number plates of his car regularly, always gave instructions from a distance and never appeared on the scene. After abduction, when he called the father/guardian of the victim, Pappu used a paid software which can give misleading information about the caller’s location.
Police say that this group has been involved in a wide variety of crimes in the city and the arrested members are being questioned to find out more information about their crimes.
