A Dhaka court has issued warrants against national daily Prothom Alo Editor Matiur Rahman and nine others over the death of Dhaka Residential Model Collge (DRMC) student Nayeemul Abrar who died of electrocution during an event of the newspaper’s magazine for juveniles 'Kishor Alo'.
The order by Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kaisarul Islam came on Thursday (Jan 16) after the investigator filed the probe report, plaintiff counsel Md Omar Faruq Asif told Bangla Tribune.
Warrants are out for nine others, including the newspaper's Joint Editor Anisul Huq who edits the Kishor Alo magazine.
"According to the investigating officer's report, allegations against Matiur Rahman and several others have been found to be true," said counsel Asif.
On Nov 1, Nayeemul, a ninth-grader non-residential student of DRMC, was electrocuted by a power generator during Kishor Alo- organised event on the school's premises.
The accident happened when Nayeemul, unfortunately, went close to the live wires set up for a power generator behind the main stage.
As soon as he was electrocuted, the organisers took him to a medical camp set up at the venue. He was then taken to the Universal Medical College Hospital at Dhaka's Mohakhali, where the doctors declared him dead.
The teenager's father Md Mojibur Rahman started a case on Nov 6 alleging his son died "due to negligence."
