Khaleda Zia at BSMMU. File photo. The update on BNP chief Khaleda Zia's health condition by the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) is now with the Supreme Court.
BSMMU's Legal Officer Tania submitted the report to Supreme Court (SC) Registrar General Ali Akbar on Wednesday (Dec 11), Vice-Chancellor Kanti Barua told Bangla Tribune.
The filling of the report comes a day before the Appellate Division is set to hear the bail petition of Khaleda in the Zia Charitable Trust case on Thursday (Dec 12).
No comments were available from officials of the Supreme Court, including Registrar General Akbar and its spokesperson Mohammad Saifur Rahman.
On Dec 5, the full bench of the Appellate Division, headed by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain, fixed Dec 12, as Khaleda’s medical report was not submitted before it.
On Nov 28, the six-member Appellate Division bench ordered authorities concerned of BSMMU to submit the report before Dec 5.
The High Court on Jul 31 rejected Khaleda’s bail petition in the case, prompting counsels to move the Appellate Division.
Oct 29 last year, a special court in Dhaka sentenced Khaleda to seven years in prison on charges the BNP claims as 'false and politically motivated'.
The 74-year-old former prime minister was transferred to the BSMMU Hospital on Apr 1 this year for treatment from the old jailhouse on Nazim Uddin Road.
Earlier, the government formed a board with doctors from the BSMMU to examine Khaleda's health.
Khaleda has been in prison since February last year serving a total of 17 years in jail in the Zia Orphanage and Zia Charitable Trust corruption case.
