BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has claimed that Khaleda Zia’s actual health report has been replaced with a concocted one.
He made the remarks on Wednesday (Dec 11), at a BNP organised roundtable on human rights. The roundtable meet was moderated by BNP’s Organisational Secretary Shama Obayed and advocate Farzana Sharmin.
At the meet, representatives from 15 countries, including, India, Pakistan and USA plus human rights activists were present. Also present were family members of 27 families who lose their dear one due to abduction of extra judicial killings.
Saying that the government has unlawfully kept Khaleda Zia in prison, Fakhrul observed: “Her rights have been breached; she has been kept in prison for 20 months in false cases in which other accused were released. The government has denied her bail.”
“The condition of human rights in the country is the gravest in the history of the country.”
In the last ten years, cases were lodged against 3.5 million people with 108,414, said Fakhrul, adding: “1,526 members of the opposition have been killed at the hands of government party members or the police. In addition, 781 persons were abducted.”
The government’s development myth will not fool the nation, he observed.
On occasion of the international day of human rights, a 119 page book on human rights condition in the country between 2009 and 2019 titled ‘Absence of Democracy and Systematic Human Rights Violation by State Apparatus’ was handed over to foreign diplomats present.
At the meet, acting high commissioner of Pakistan Shah Faisal Kakkar, gave a speech and talked about the killings of Muslims in Kashmir.
At the roundtable meet, BNP standing committee member Dr Khondokar Mosharraf Hossain, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Selima Rahman, Iqbal Hassan Mahmud Tuku were present.
