One dead, dozens injured in Dhaka plastic factory fire

At least one person has been killed and over 30 others were injured in a fire at a plastic factory in Dhaka' Keraniganj.
The rescue operation was underway as firefighters recovered a dead body from the debris, said local MP Nasrul Hamid Bipu, who went to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where the victims have been taken.
Fire Service and Civil Defence headquarters Duty Officer Ershad Hossain told Bangla Tribune the factory caught fire around 5pm on Wednesday (Dec 11).
The fire left as many as 34 people injured who are being treated at the DMCH burns unit.
"The injured are in a critical condition all of them sustained over 30 percent burns," Bipu, who serves as a state minister, told the media at the hospital.
The factory where some 70 to 80 people worked had been operating in an "unhygienic and hazardous environment" and had "no clearance from the government", he said.
Relatives of the victims, who sustained injuries in a fire at a factory in Keraniganj, are seen wailing at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Wednesday (Dec 1).Several other unauthorised factories operate in the area, MP Bipu said before lambasting the local government and environment ministries for failing to relocate them.
Pledging actions against the unauthorised factories, he assured of all-out support to the factory fire victims.
