SC upholds stay on ICT lawsuit against Nawshaba

File photo shows actor Nawshaba AhmedThe Appellate Division has upheld a High Court stay order on the ICT lawsuit filed against actor Nawshaba Ahmed.
A bench led by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain gave the order on Sunday (Dec 8).
On Nov 20, the High Court stayed for six months, the trial proceedings against Nawshaba in the case filed under the ICT legislation for allegedly spreading rumours on social media, during the road safety movement last year.
During the countrywide movement on Aug 4, she went live on Facebook urging people to “save the students from attacks” claiming that four students were killed.
In her one-and-half-minute live broadcast, the actor also claimed a student’s eyes have been gouged out by the attackers.
The video went viral prompting Rapid Action Battalion to arrest her from her home the same day.
She was granted bail in January this year after a case was filed on Aug 5, 2018.
