The driver of a deputy inspector general of police flexed muscles with a journalist after hitting his bike in Dhaka.
Barta 24 crime reporter Shahriar Hasan was hit by the DIG’s SUV at Dhanmondi’s 27, on his way to New Market on Saturday (Dec 7).
“A Pajero jeep suddenly hit me at the Dhanmondi 27 intersection. I immediately fell down,” he told Bangla Tribune.
Although the police car tried to get away, an injured Shahriar followed and soon caught up.
“When I asked the driver to get down he told me to leave the street. He was in police uniform and after getting down asked me what was the matter,” he said.
Shahriar said when he told the driver to apologise, the driver said, “Why should I say sorry? You didn’t die. DIG sir is in the car, clear the road,” he said.
“Sometimes after the incident, the police official’s personal officer got down from the police car and took a photo of the bike,” Shahriar said before adding, that the driver even threatened to call the traffic police.
He said that when he wanted to meet the DIG, he was met with a “Sir is getting annoyed. Please clear the road.”
Although he was forced to step away on account of injury, Shahriar expressed his disappointment at the incident.
“I informed the media department of the police headquarters. Now they’ll decide what to do,” he said.
Police headquarters Additional Inspector General (media) Md Sohel Rana said that they are looking into who was using the car and the whole matter was being looked into.
