The Dhaka University authorities have terminated four assistant professors and a lecturer for not joining the university following their sabbatical leaves.


The decision came at a meeting of the Syndicate, the highest governing body of the university, chaired Vice-Chancellor Prof Akhtaruzzaman on Thursday (Nov 28), said Dhaka University Teachers' Association President Maksud Kamal.
The five are assistant professors Sanwar Uddin Ahmed of Mathematics, Mohammad Mujibul Kabir of Finance, Dr Asma Jahan Accounting and Information Sciences, Md Sohel Shamsuddin Biochemistry and Microbiology and Electrical and Electronics Department lecturer Ayesha Zaman.
They were contacted several times by the university administration, but did not return to their posts within the due dates, VC Akhtaruzzaman said.
