The VC of Bangladesh University of Textiles (BUTEX) is accused of organising first year Honours admission exam without the approval of academic council.
An Administrative official, quoting the VC, said: “The VC has said that admission committee is approved and a notice will not be needed. This will be retroactively approved on Dec 2. The admission test for Honours 2019-20 was held on Nov 15.”
It is alleged that the VC Md Abul Kashem arranged the admission exam, sidelining all rules.
The University registrar, professor Md Monirul Islam, says: “The decision to have an admission test was taken on Jul 24 at the 122nd academic dean committee meeting. On Jul 30 the decision of Jul 24 was approved.”
However, an investigation revealed that certain issues were misreported.
The University law clearly states that before an admission test, the admission policy has to be approved by the academic council.
Sub clause 5 of rule 38 says, if a student presents false information then admission will be cancelled. As a result, the academic future of thousands may face uncertainty.
A few admission-seeking students say that if any complication arises regarding admission then they will go to high court. This year, 8,203 persons took part in the admission of Bangladesh Textile University. The admission test was held on Nov 15 at four campuses, including the one at Tejgaon.
