Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) has taken punitive measures against 30 students for their involvements in ragging in residential halls.
The punitive actions include academic suspension and expulsion from the dormitory, BUET's Directorate of Student's Welfare (DSW) Director Md Mizanur Rahman told the media on Thursday (Nov 28).
Nine students have been expelled from dormitories for life. They have been also suspended from academic activities for different periods.
Another 21 students have been suspended from dormitories for different periods.
The move came following demonstration by BUET student to press home their three-point demand:
- Permanent expulsion of the students named in the charge sheet filed over the murder EEE student Abrar Fahad;
- Punishment of the students involved in ragging freshers;
- The categorization and inclusion of student politics and ragging related issues into the BUET ordinance through the approval of academic council and Syndicate.
According to the university administration, BUET has already implemented two of the demands while the remaining one is undergoing official procedures.
